Patients on the diet not
only lose weight quickly and safely, but they learn proper eating habits
and receive sound nutrition education throughout the program during
personal counseling sessions with our Physician or Registered Dietitian.
Throughout
the program, patients are pleased to discover that healthy eating, after
their goal weight is met, does not need to mean boring, plain meals with
deprivation from their favorite foods.
Moderation and balance of diet, as
well as modifying eating plans to fit personal lifestyles, are encouraged
as a way to eat healthfully for a lifetime. Dr. Fountis prepares patients
to eat from all food groups and feel comfortable doing so. Exercise is also an important
part of the health equation, and patients are encouraged to find
activities they enjoy on a regular basis.
Throughout the nutrition
counseling sessions with our Physician or Registered Dietitian, patients receive
thorough education on a wide range of topics, including:
- Reading the food nutrition
label.
- Understanding and utilizing
the food guide pyramid, and portion control.
- Following the Dietary
Guidelines for Americans.
- Choosing healthy fats as
opposed to unhealthy fats, and what amount to have daily.
- Making healthy restaurant
choices.
- Eating smart during the
holidays.
- Including healthy, mid-meal
snacks as a means to decrease hunger between meals, and therefore
eliminating over-eating.
- Getting "5-A-Day" of fruits
and vegetables for better health, and to lower risk of heart disease,
cancer, and other diseases.
- Modifying favorite recipes
to convert them into more healthy versions.
